THINKING OF BECOMING A VOLUNTEER FOSTER FAMILY?
Foster homes are the foundation of our rescue organization. EBRO does not have a physical shelter or facility so without our foster homes, we would not be able to help bulldogs in need.
****Please note that although we accept applications from all over Ontario, we normally give preference to applicants who live within a 1-2 hour radius of Peterborough, Ontario due to the proximity and accessibility to our veterinary clinics. Thank you in advance for understanding!****
WHAT IS A FOSTER FAMILY?
As a foster parent or family, you provide a temporary warm and loving home until a forever home is found. We provide all food, supplies, guidance and cover all pre-approved veterinary costs during the foster period. All we ask is that you provide basic care , shelter, exercise, and of course lots of love! Many families worry about the day their foster dogs leave for their forever home. While adoption day can certainly be emotionally difficult, it’s also rewarding to know that you've helped your foster dog flourish and find a wonderful permanent home. The emotional reward is part of what makes all the effort worthwhile.
HOW LONG WILL THE DOG BE IN MY FOSTER CARE?
There is no fixed time because each dog and situation is different. We do however ask that the bulldog be kept in foster care for a minimum of 4-6 weeks prior to being put up for adoption. This allows us to get to know him or her better and provides the tools we need to find a perfect forever home. The length of time in foster care generally varies according to age of the pet and the type of home it requires. For example, younger Bulldogs are often adopted much faster than senior Bulldogs. Personality, temperament, energy level and, comfort with kids and other animals also affects the length of time it takes to find a perfect forever home. Many of our foster dogs are seniors or have special medical needs. Our goal is to make the best possible match by taking great care in finding the perfect forever home.
WHAT IF I WANT TO ADOPT MY FOSTER DOG
In some cases, the foster parents grow attached to the dog and decide to adopt him or her after the minimum foster period has passed. We certainly understand that sometimes you can't help falling in love. We always give foster parents priority when it comes to adoption. If you think you may want to open your heart and home and become a foster family, and you live in Ontario, Canada, please fill out the foster application.
